I stand in front of the paper and I 

Bleed all over the page 

Toil and drudge for our daily bread 

Spill our guts for a wage 

I stand in front of the gallows and I 

Hold my head up so high 

In the prison of hurt and dread 

My spirit still will not die

I choose this hurt I choose this bleeding

And I choose unending drowning 

I choose love and I choose burning 

I choose to stay strong, keep enduring 

All they put me through

I choose to claim my voice and power 

I choose to stand up to the tower 

Choose to speak my truth, not cower

Know this love is true

I stand in front of the hanging judge and 

I do not show remorse 

Our people suffer under heel 

Let my love take its course 

I stand in front of eternity and 

Take on the fate they give 

I’ll keep turning the fire’s wheel 

So the future can live
