The second week of December had wrapped Hogwarts Castle in a quiet hush of winter.

Frost clung to the tall windows like lace, and the air carried the soft promise of snow. The castle seemed to breathe more slowly at this time of year, its corridors dimly lit and echoing with distant footsteps, laughter, and the occasional whisper of magic.

Deep within the Slytherin dormitories, Mira Silverthorne knelt beside her open sanctuary suitcase, carefully organizing a set of glowing vials.

Pip guided them through winding corridors, past staircases that shifted just out of rhythm, and down a quiet passage rarely used by students.

The deeper they went, the colder the air became.

Draco frowned slightly, “I don’t like this corridor.”

Mira said nothing.

Pip stopped before a tall, ancient door.

It was carved with intricate runes, worn by time.

The door creaked open slowly.

Inside—

A vast, dimly lit chamber.

And at its center stood a tall, ornate mirror.

Draco exhaled slowly, “Oh…”

“I’ve read about this.” Mira said.

Pip scampered behind Mira, unusually quiet.

“Yes,” Mira whispered.

She turned it gently in her hand.

It pulsed faintly with magic.

Pip chirped softly, circling her feet.

The room seemed to exhale.

A soft voice broke the silence.

“Extraordinary.”

Both Mira and Draco turned.

Standing at the doorway was Albus Dumbledore.

His eyes twinkled—but there was unmistakable surprise behind them, “I had wondered who might find it first.”

Draco blinked, “You knew it was here?”

Dumbledore stepped closer, his gaze fixed on the stone in Mira’s hand, “I had hoped it would remain hidden longer.” He looked at Mira, “And yet… you have done what very few could.”

Mira tilted her head slightly, “My reflection told me I was meant to protect it.”

Dumbledore studied her for a long moment.

Then he nodded, “Yes. That would explain it.”

Draco crossed his arms, “So… what happens now?”

Dumbledore smiled faintly, “That depends.” He looked at Mira, “What do you intend to do with it?”

Mira didn’t hesitate, “Protect it.”

No greed.

No curiosity.

Just certainty.

The stone pulsed once.

Brighter.

Dumbledore’s expression shifted—something deeper, more knowing, “Then it has already made its choice.”

Draco frowned, “Why bring it here in the first place?”

Dumbledore’s gaze softened, “I believed Hogwarts would be the last place Lord Voldemort would search.”

Mira’s expression darkened slightly, “That’s not true.”

Silence fell.

Dumbledore looked at her carefully, “Go on.”

Mira spoke calmly, “Professor Quirrell.”

Draco stiffened, “What about him?”

Mira’s voice remained steady, “He has a piece of Voldemort’s soul attached to him. Like a parasite.”

The air in the room seemed to freeze.

Dumbledore’s eyes sharpened, “I see.”

A long pause followed.

Then—

He nodded slowly, “Then we must act with care.”

Suddenly—

The stone in Mira’s hand began to glow.

Not red.

Not gold.

But something deeper.

A swirling brilliance of crimson, blue, and starlight.

Draco stepped back, “What is it doing?”

The light intensified.

The surface of the stone shifted—

Reforming.

Evolving.

Changing.

Dumbledore watched closely.

His voice was quiet, “It is responding...to her.”

The glow softened.

And in Mira’s palm now rested something entirely new.

“No,” Dumbledore agreed, “It is something new.”

Mira smiled faintly, “Then it needs a new name.”

She closed her fingers gently around it, “The Rebirth Stone.”

Draco let out a slow breath, “That was… a lot.” Then he blinked, “Wait.” He looked at Dumbledore, “What about Fluffy?”

Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled again, “Ah, yes.”

He chuckled softly, “It seems the Fluffy has grown rather fond of Miss Silverthorne.”

Mira smiled slightly, “He visits my sanctuary suitcase when he’s lonely.”

Draco smirked, “Of course he does.”

Dumbledore nodded, “In that case… I see no reason to separate them.”

Mira’s eyes lit up softly, “You mean—?”

“Yes,” Dumbledore said warmly, “He may join your familiars.”

The room felt different now.

Quieter.

Lighter.

Mira looked down at the Rebirth Stone in her hand.

A responsibility.

But not a burden.

Draco crossed his arms again, “So now you’ve got a Cerberus, a magical sanctuary, ancient relics, and a reality-bending stone.” He paused, “…anything else you’d like to collect?”

Mira smiled faintly, “I’m not collecting them.” She looked at the stone, “I’m protecting them.” Dumbledore’s gaze softened, “And that,” he said quietly, “is why they choose you.”

As they left the chamber, Pip trotted happily beside Mira.

The castle seemed warmer somehow.

More alive.

In her hand, the Rebirth Stone pulsed gently.

Not with power.

But with purpose.

And far beyond the walls of Hogwarts—

Darkness was stirring.

But so was something else.

Something new.

Something that had never existed before.
