Within your wings

I find a place

For my own protection.

As the war carries on

And the people pass through,

I wonder how long I can dwell.

Slowly your wings ascend,

Telling me to move out

And experience the world

Before I lose my sense of wonder

And every part of me

Fall apart piece by piece.

Finally you depart from me,

Flapping like butterfly wings

And leaving behind my home.

Eyes casting forward, I look out

Beyond, hoping to find

The one piece of love hidden within.
