The holidays ended faster than I expected.

Soon, the first day of the new school term arrived.

I woke up earlier than usual, put on my freshly ironed uniform, and packed my bag.

As we walked toward our new classroom, everything felt strangely familiar.

Different grade.

Different books.

The same hallway.

The same laughter.

The same person walking beside me.

"I was worried," Narin admitted.

"So was I."

"You were?"

"I thought we'd end up in different classes."

He smiled.

"I told you friendship isn't decided by classrooms."

I looked at him.

"You remembered that?"

"I remember everything you say."

His answer caught me off guard.

I looked away, pretending to adjust my school bag.

"Let's go."

He smiled to himself and followed me.

Our new classroom was on the second floor.

The desks were arranged differently, but one thing hadn't changed.

There was still a window.

As students chose their seats, I quietly walked toward it.

Old habits never disappeared.

Just as I placed my bag on the desk, someone put another bag on the chair beside mine.

"You didn't think I'd let someone else take this seat, did you?"

I looked up.

"Narin."

"Good morning, seat partner."

I laughed softly.

"Good morning."

When the teacher entered, everyone quickly sat down.

"Welcome to a new school year," he said.

"I hope you'll all work hard."

As the lesson began, I glanced toward the window.

The same trees.

The same playground.

The same mountains in the distance.

Only one thing had changed.

Last year...

I sat by the window alone.

This year...

Someone had already chosen the seat beside me.

And somehow...
